Jonathan Sherman

Partner and Vice Chair, Strategic Litigation
Jonathan Sherman is a nationally recognized commercial litigator and a leading advocate in First Amendment-related disputes. Prior to Sterlington, Jonathan enjoyed a distinguished 24-year tenure at Boies Schiller Flexner LLP, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s litigation practice. Throughout his career, Jonathan has represented clients in high-stakes business disputes, including significant securities fraud actions, intellectual property battles, and antitrust cases. He has also argued groundbreaking free speech and defamation matters, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier litigator.

Before his time at Boies Schiller, Jonathan practiced at Cahill Gordon & Reindel under renowned First Amendment authority Floyd Abrams. Early in his career, he played a key role in representing Court TV in the historic proceedings that allowed cameras into the O.J. Simpson trial, setting the stage for his lifelong advocacy for open courts and transparency in the judicial system.

Jonathan has been recognized as one of the 500 Leading Lawyers and Litigators in America by Lawdragon, which has praised his “nimble advocacy” and “astonishing legal passion.” He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and served as a trustee of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.

Jonathan holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, an M.A. from Yale University, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Rochester.
